Welcome to my Pandora's Box sub-gallery on DeviantART! My name is Judy (my pen-name is MoonCat) and I am the artist and creator of Pandora's Box. :) I came up with the idea with my mother, as we always used to joke how cute it would be to dress up our cat, Pandora, in a little kimono and watch her dance around. Since that'll NEVER happen, she said "Draw her in one!". So one day I did, and I've been drawing her more and more ever since in various costumes from around the world and around your nieghborhood. =P

I've learned alot drawing with Pandora, but I don't intend to stop here! I want to take her further, so that I can share her with the world! So please, take your time and browse my gallery. If you have an idea for a costume that she could wear then by all means please leave me a messege or send me a note! I really appreciate it.

If you're interested, please check out my main gallery: mooncats5

I hope you enjoy my work. See ya!

Notice! I've finally saved enough money to buy a print account on my main DA gallery, mooncats5. As soon as it is up and running I will be useing it for Pandora's Box Prints as well as my other original works. I hope you'll all go and check it out soon. :)

Special Note: I no longer use this gallery to showcase Pandora's pictures since it'd be too confuseing! Instead, I'll use this gallery for smaller works like icons, wallpapers, brushes and etc related to Pandora. Maybe like some sort of fan club if anyone's interested =P If you want to see the actual images, please visit my main gallery! Until I sort everything out that's where they'll be until further notice. Thanks! :)

--------Pandora's Box FAQ-------
----------------------------------------

Q. How did Pandora come to be?
A. My mother and I have a calico cat we named Pandora. Ever since she was a baby she's always been so tiny and so cute (although now-a-days she's kind of tempermental, she's still very snuggly). My mother and I often joked about Panny (as we call her) in a kimono. Well, since that'll never happen it was decided I would draw her in one instead, since I'm an artist. That was the first drawing I ever did of Pandora in that kind of way - and then I started drawing her in more and different costumes.

Q. Why is she named "Pandora"?
A. It's a tradition my mom started where we name cats after ancient Greek, Roman, Egpytian, etc gods, goddesses and people. So far we've had Cleopatra, Ceasar, Aries, Apollo, Pandora, and our newest kitty Othello. Pandora really is the perfect name for her since she can be really tempermental sometimes if she doesn't want you near her or touching her, but she can also be very nice. Despite the mythological story of Pandora's box full of evil and curses, the name "Pandora" means "all gifts" - and that is the embodiment of Pandora the drawing.

Q. Is Pandora some kind of Hello Kitty rip-off?
A. Not at all! You'd actually be surprised how many cat-like cute characters there are out there. I really do think Pandora (from a design point of view) is unique, because she's not just some squishy ball of cuteness on paper. She has form, figure, and character. She's surely not two-dimensional (not that Hello Kitty is). I must admit though, that Hello Kitty is a partial inspiration at times. I really do like Hello Kitty (Chococat is my favorite too!).

Q. Where do you get inspiration for Pandora's drawings?
A. Several sources. To me she's kinda like Betty Boop meets Hello Kitty - she has figure and body but at the same time she's so cute! And she's a cat, what's not to love? As far as her costume designs I often look in books and on the internet for an interesting costume. Sometimes ideas just come to me as I'm living my daily life as well. Even the kind of music I'm listening to at the moment may give me some idea of what to draw. It's a combination of things.

Q. Do you sell your drawings?
A. Eventually I want to get a Print Account here on DA so that I can sell prints online. In addition I'm planning on re-producting some of my drawings and framing them to sell in my nieghborhood. The originals, however, are not for sale at the moment.

Q. Do you take requests?
A. It depends. I take "suggestions" for costumes that I could draw Pandora in, but as far as "Draw Pandora in my characters clothes!" it really depends. If I like the costume and it's original and interesting enough then I may, but if it's just some ripped jeans and a logo t-shirt I'm likely not to comply. The main focus is on the costume, since I will not draw fake hair or put a wig on Pandora, so please consider that also.

Q. Why don't you draw her in something sexy/naked?
A. That's a bit sick don't you think? Pandora is a children-friendly character and I intend to keep her that way. If I ever do draw her in some kind of adult outfit then it will be for my personal collection only - but I highly doubt I'll ever do that. And as far as drawing her "naked", I base Pandora's anatomy on that of a real cat - not a human. Think of her as a cat that's able to stand on her hind legs and walk around. That being said, even if I drew her "naked", there wouldn't be anything to see! She'd just be a normal cat then.

Q. What are the rules for costume suggestions?
A. There aren't really any "rules" per se. The costume must be kid-friendly (if it's not something you'd wanting hanging in a 3 year olds room then it's probably not a good idea). No adult outfits. As far as specifics it's really up to me to decide wiether or not the costume is acceptable. Just let me know your ideas and I'll see what I can do.

Q. I have an idea for a costume Pandora could wear! How do I tell you?
A. Simply leave me a comment on the bottom of this page. If you'd like to send it privately then you can also send me a note. Please don't IM me on AIM about your ideas, and e-mailing is useless since I don't answer e-mails from people I don't know.

Q. Do you ever draw any other cats/animals like Pandora?
A. When we found our newest kitten, Othello, I drew him in a similar fashion as Pandora in one picture. But whereas Pandora is a young cat I drew Othello as a baby kitten. I also drew him along with Pandora on a card I made for my mother for mothers day. There are also Aries and Apollo who I have drawn in costume, but they didn't work as well as Pandora did. Will I ever include other characters in Pandora's box? I can't really say right now. Maybe in the future, if people would like to see them.
